Kidney

The kidneys are part of the urinary system, which removes waste and excess fluid and electrolytes from the blood. These are two bean-shaped organs found in the retroperitoneal space.

A. Kidney Cancer / Renal Cancer

Most of the kidney cancers are diagnosed incidentally, during investigations for other symptoms.

Some Possible Symptoms Include:

  • Blood in the urine (Haematuria)
  • Back pain
  • Weight loss and loss of appetite

Treatment of kidney cancer includes removal of part (partial nephrectomy) or full kidney (radical nephrectomy).

B. Kidney Stones

Kidney or ureteric stones can present with colic and blood in the urine. If untreated, they can damage your kidneys.

The size and location of the stones will determine treatment. Several options for treatment of urinary tract stones are medical expulsive therapy, extra-corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and LASER lithotripsy.
