Flexible Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the urethra, prostate and bladder under local anesthesia. It is a short procedure (5-15 minutes) and the low-risk procedure.
It is indicated in the following situations:
- Persistent or significant blood in the urine (haematuria)
- Bladder mass detected on ultrasound or xray
- Surveillance for recurrence of bladder cancer
- Recurrent bladder infections (UTI)
- To assess urethra (urethral stricture) or prostate
- To remove ureteric DJ stent.
Complications:
- Transient dysuria
- Bleeding if a biopsy taken or large BPH with prostatitis is present
- UTI ( < 1% )
